Working with fillers is an artform.

At Gesicht, we treat with non-permanent fillers, which are a gel-like substance consisting of hyaluronic acid and water. Hyaluronic acid is a large molecule which is naturally produced in the body’s connective tissues, including the skin. Hyaluronic acid’s function in the skin is to bind water molecules and thereby fill up the space between the skin’s other structural proteins, such as collagen and elastic fibers. Hyaluronic acid is nature’s way of giving the skin volume and mechanical resistance. Hyaluronic acid fillers come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be very different in terms of results as well as patient safety – this is why we have chosen to work with Aliaxin fillers.

As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin is reduced. This is a consequence of the natural aging process, but the loss of hyaluronic acid is accelerated if the skin is exposed to large amounts of sunshine over a lifetime.

Moreover, tobacco-smoking is a contributing cause of hyaluronic acid loss. With age, we also see loss of bone volume and facial fat tissue. The result of these different factors is reduced skin elasticity, wrinkles, folds and changes in facial features.

With non-permanent fillers, we are able to change shape and volume in facial areas of interest. Either with the purpose of reducing the effects of aging – or simply with the purpose of beautification.

There are multiple causes of dark circles under the eyes. One of them being a genetical disposition to a lack of volume of the fatty tissue around the eyes. If there is a lack of fat tissue in this region, natural light will tend to cast shadows around the eyes, giving the face a weary expression. This lack of volume can be treated with filler treatment.

Has time taken its toll a bit too early?

Facial anatomy changes on multiple fronts as a consequence of the natural aging process. The skin loses its elasticity, hydration and volume. There is a loss of bone volume. The facial fat pads shrink and disappear. The facial muscles shrink and their retaining ligaments lose their strength. This natural aging results in a variety of anatomical changes such as wrinkles and folds of the skin, hollowing of the temples and cheeks, mid-face volume loss, increased distance between the facial landmarks, dry lips and much more. We can’t reverse the aging process, but we can accommodate it by refining some of its anatomical features.

Reconstruction and correction

Have you experienced facial tissue trauma or surgery?

Tissue trauma and surgery can result in anatomy changing scarring in the affected tissues. If you have experienced facial trauma or surgery such as cleft lip surgery, you might wish to correct the area with filler treatment. At Gesicht, our experienced physicians can help you with an optimal treatment plan in order to restore a natural anatomy to the affected area.

Ozempic face/Wegovy face

Weight loss causes changes in facial anatomy.

A significant weight loss carries an array of consequences for the human body, including facial anatomy. When a large amount of fat tissue is metabolized, it inevitably affects facial structures. Folds and imbalances can occur, and you might want to accommodate them. Our medical doctors can help you identify how your face has changed as a consequence of your weight loss and which possibilities we have to alleviate any unwanted changes. At Gesicht, we are proud to work with Aliaxin SR, which is a unique product in its structural ability to mimic fatty tissue and thereby replace any facial fat pads which a weight loss might have diminished.

Depending on treatment area, the final result can be expected within few days, until the product has fully integrated itself into the tissue.

Side effects and complications

Side effects to treatment with non-permanent fillers are far predominantly mild and self-limiting. Serious complications to filler treatment are exceedingly rare. Examples of allergic reaction to filler products have been seen, so it is important that you mention to our physician if you have a history of allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid based fillers. Likewise, in extremely rare cases, filler treatment can cause an acute disruption of blood supply to the treated area, which – if left untreated – can cause tissue damage.

In one out of 10.000 cases, a local infection around the injection site can occur. We prevent infection by performing the procedure through a sterile technique, and you should be careful to keep the treated area clean and dry after the treatment.

After the treatment

The treatment effect is visible immediately after the treatment. You can expect some degree of local swelling and soreness for the first 1-3 days, and commonly some degree of bruising.

You should avoid touching the area as far as possible for the rest of the day after the procedure. Likewise, you should avoid make-up and all other products on the treated area for the rest of the day. Avoid any strenuous exercise for the first day after the treatment, as this can worsen any swelling and bruising.
